Those who have completed a TEFL course could be in demand in the Ukraine as around 40,000 police officers will start learning English.

Viktor Ratushniak, Ukrainian deputy interior minister, announced on September 29th that around 40,000 police officers would be learning English ahead of the Euro 2012 football championship.

The Kyiv Post reports that 26,000 of the officers will be learning the language at civilian educational institutions and the rest will be taught English at universities or police academies.

Therefore, anyone who has taken a TEFL course and wishes to teach English in the Ukraine could find they are teaching policemen.

The police are being taught the language so that they can control crowds easier at the football tournament.

Euro 2012 is taking place in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk and more police will be drafted in to retain public order.

The football championship will also be hosted by Poland between June 8th and July 1st 2012.

It is the 14th Euro competition and is an opportunity for national teams from Europe to compete against one another.
