The Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili attended a meeting at the end of last week with volunteer teachers who had arrived from the US and Canada in order to teach English.
Panaroma.am reports that he told the English teachers that all pupils will be able to speak the language within the next four years and it would be the second language behind the mother tongue.
Therefore, TEFL-qualified people could be in demand in Georgia for the next few years.
President Saakashvili said: "The Georgian education system will undergo revolution in the upcoming several years and all children must have command of English from the age of five," the news provider quotes.
Other languages that should be taught in Georgian schools include Arabic, Chinese, Turkish and Russian, he added.
If TEFL-qualified people do want to teach English in Georgia they could apply for an internship.
In this way, someone can teach English in Georgia for a year and earn about $300 a month tax free.
