TEFL teachers eyeing a job in China can soon benefit from a new English language TV service from the Xinhua news agency.
The channel launches this week (July 1st) in some European supermarkets and outside Chinese embassies across the continent.
It could allow TEFL teachers to brush up on their country knowledge before leaving for China.
Chen Yue, a spokesman for Xinhua’s English news department, told the Associated Press: "It’s still unclear exactly how many countries and outlets will carry our English news, but we hope to expand these channels greatly with more broadcast partners by the end of the year."
The TV service is the latest initiative in a £4 billion project to bolster China’s media presence in the west.
Another provider of English language news abroad is the China Daily newspaper, which has an average daily circulation of more than 300,000 and more than 12 million hits a day on its website.
