Egypt becoming a more popular travel destination among Brits

Posted 30 Aug 2010

Travellers heading to Egypt will find that the country offers great value for money, its tourism board has claimed.

According to Khaled Ramy, director of UK and Ireland at the Egyptian State Tourist Office, said that the north African country is becoming increasingly popular with British travellers.

He said: "It has lots of culture, it has lots of beach resorts. The weather is extremely important, there is sunshine even in the winter months and the waters are warm because it is a coral sea and the nearest … to the UK."

Mr Ramy was speaking after new figures showed that flights to the country this September are up 135 per cent on last year, one of the largest rises seen anywhere in the world.

Highlighting the improved access between the Egypt and the UK, Mr Ramy noted: "Nearly all UK airports are serving Egypt now and flights are available to any Egyptian destination and it's only a 4.5 to five hour flight."

Serving as a bridge between Africa and Southwest Asia, the country is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gaza Strip and Israel, the Red Sea, Sudan and Libya.ADNFCR-2167-ID-800044484-ADNFCR
