Being shy will not help those students teaching English overseas to fit in when they get to their new homes, according to one girl.
It can do the world of good to smile at everyone and try to check out plenty of parties in order to make friends, opined emmafoers in her i-to-i chalkboard blog.
She remarked: "Don’t be shy – invite your colleagues and friends to do things together they will no doubt return the favour."
In her view, it can be a positive idea to try doing a language exchange with a resident, as it will not only give people a chance to learn how to speak to locals in their own tongue, but it may even turn into a valuable friendship.
The blogger also highlighted how important it is to be open to difference while teaching English abroad, since potential friends may be put off by criticism of the surrounding culture.
An American graduate currently teaching in South Korea told the Atlantic Journal Constitution that he is having the time of his life.
