Denmark offers English news service

Posted 28 Aug 2009

TEFL teachers living in Denmark can soon benefit from greater access to English news broadcasts.

According to the Copenhagen Post, public service broadcaster DR and the city council are both looking to help foreigners feel more at home.

The former is to present the news on its website in the six most common foreign languages in Denmark including English, Bosnian, Turkish and Arabic.

DR Online editor Nicolai Porsbo told Politiken newspaper: "DR is for the whole population and we will reach a lot of people who are interested in following the news here, but who often experience a language barrier."

Meanwhile, a twice-daily radio news podcast in English will be broadcast by the city council in partnership with the Copenhagen Post.

In related news, China’s Xinhua News Agency launched English language news broadcasts on European supermarket screens earlier this year.

They consist mainly of ten to 15-minutes briefs as well as a 30-minute segment of feature and lifestyle programmes.ADNFCR-2167-ID-19336556-ADNFCR
