In a recent study by the Canadian Council for Learning (CCL), it was found that boys who have regular access to comic books find it easier to transfer spoken English into the written form, reports the Telegraph.
TEFL-qualified people teaching English abroad could find that comic books could aid them in teaching their pupils.
Using comic books could be a fun way to teach English to students abroad and help them see spoken words in written form.
The report found that boys who tended to read comic books were more likely to take greater enjoyment in reading and would comprehend other texts.
Dr Paul Cappon, president of the CCL, said: "Considering the evidence, it is time that educators and parents embraced comics as a positive teaching and learning tool," quotes the news provider.
Some of the most popular comic books are Batman, X-Men, Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk and Teen Titans.
