A civil engineer has revealed how he chose to become a teacher after six years as a civil engineer and how he could not have done so without an online learning course.
Paudie O’Neill told the Irish Times that he was in a well-paid job in a good firm but he just realised that his heart was not in it, so decided to make a change and follow the career path that had appealed to him since he was young.
He was quoted as saying: "It dawned on me that I had one last chance to take a risk. My responsibilities were mounting up and soon I wouldnt have the option to make a move."
But Mr O’Neill explained that he could not afford to quit his job to take a conventional teacher training course as he owns a house and it was online learning that allowed him to qualify.
Last week, the Creston News Advertiser noted that while internet programmes offer increased flexibility to students, this does not mean they will be an easy ride.
