China has a high demand for native English speakers, which is good for those interested in TEFL jobs in the country, it has been claimed.
According to Chris Biddle, from The Otherside blog, learning English is compulsory in China yet very few teachers are native speakers, which becomes particularly apparent the further away from the tourist spots one ventures.
He highlights one example when he visited a school and was asked by the teacher whether he would come to dinner with her and her family so she could practice her English.
"This was an English teacher who had never had the opportunity to speak with another foreigner. That’s just how desperate they are for native speakers," Mr Biddle states.
Speaking to the Spartan Daily recently, senior foreign language studies major David Kuo said that who choose to teach English in China are likely to find the experience extremely rewarding.
