The way technology is advancing might mean in the future it will seem "odd" and unnecessary to carry a computer around, an industry expert has suggested.
Joint managing director of System Concepts Tom Stewart said the accessibility of the internet will become as common as the availability of electricity is now.
"You go anywhere and if you need the internet, there will be surface where you will use it," he predicted.
Mr Stewart added the fact people are using devices such as Facebook is important because it means the internet is being used to access information that is on it.
According to the Office for National Statistics, around 16 million homes in Great Britain have internet access, which is a seven per cent increase over the last year.
Developments in technology and the popularity of the internet might make it easier for people to access online TEFL courses and other information on the web.
The independent broadband provider, The Cloud, said earlier this month that they popularity of mobile devices that can access the internet is making people think they can log on wherever and whenever they want.
