Bupa International establishes accreditation system

Posted 20 Jul 2010

Bupa International will be assessing the 7,500 healthcare services that it uses across the globe so those teaching English abroad will know which ones to visit.

Hospitals will be assessed on patient safety, clinical quality and the standard of equipment to measure the levels of treatment that each one can provide, reports the Telegraph.

This will make it easier for those teaching English abroad as they will know where to go for certain treatments if they happen to need some medical care.

Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite, director of the Centre for Clinical Governance Research at the University of New South Wales, Australia, told the news provider that this is a wise thing to do.

He said: “Studies we have done show that hospitals with a sound accreditation result are more likely to have effective leadership, productive organisational cultures and to provide better quality care.”

Interest in healthcare accreditation systems has gained impetus recently as countries such as Australia and Canada have already established them.

Those teaching English abroad should also get travel insurance before going overseas to avoid accruing large health bills, suggests the Foreign Office.ADNFCR-2167-ID-800003570-ADNFCR
