Brits should ‘prepare before moving abroad’

Posted 19 Jul 2010

A new report from the Foreign Office, entitled British Behaviour Abroad, which was released on July 16th, found that Britons spend less time planning a trip abroad than they spend on cleaning their house.

Many people could avoid any problems they may get into when going on holiday or moving abroad to teach English by preparing beforehand, the report suggests.

One of the most common problems was extremely high treatment or repatriation bills accrued because the traveller did not have adequate insurance.

Those people living abroad to teach English can avoid hefty bills if they need medical care while overseas by purchasing travel insurance.

Jeremy Browne, Foreign and Commonwealth Office minister, said: “A bit of preparation before you go, such as arranging travel insurance and checking our website, will ensure you get the most out of your trip without bad memories and big bills.”

The Travel Association has also urged travellers to be aware of the health risks involved in going abroad following Cheryl Cole’s diagnosis of malaria.
