Brits abroad ‘should sort finances’

Posted 31 Dec 2008

Brits moving abroad to work have been advised to find the right bank account which fits their needs and has "great returns".

Making the most of any money earned in another country is an essential part of expat living, explained joint managing director of Alliance and Leicester International (ALIL) Simon Ripton.

He also advised people to look at the "financial stability of the economy of the country that you are looking at – including employment opportunities".

Brits should learn basic language skills too, Mr Ripton concluded – so even if workers are teaching English abroad, it could be helpful to pick up some words and phrases in the local dialect.

According to a poll conducted by ALIL, the top reasons why expats prefer their new country to the UK include better weather, higher standard of living, lower crime rates and a slower pace of life.

However, it also showed that one in five struggle with language barriers and nearly one in ten long for British grub.

ALIL is one of the largest offshore deposit takers.ADNFCR-2167-ID-18952162-ADNFCR
