TEFL teachers are increasingly looking to Brazil for value for money during extended placements.
According to travel specialists Journey Latin America, the economic downturn has seen the cost of air travel to the country fall by as much as £200.
In addition, Brazil’s struggling currency means food and accommodation prices have come down too.
Laura Rendell-Dunn, Journey Latin America’s press and marketing executive, says the situation is ideal for young people on a limited budget.
She explains: "I suppose it would depend on the duration [visitors] are travelling for, [but] if they want to travel for a long time, then it makes sense to go a country where the cost of living is going to be a lot cheaper than somewhere else."
Recent figures published by VisitBritain found that while 90 per cent of the population claim they are reducing spending, less than half (45 per cent) are planning to cut back on travel abroad.
