BAE Systems announced today (September 9th) that it will be axing 740 jobs, mainly in its military division, due to funding cuts.
The firm manufacture vehicles, including planes for the military, but due to funding cuts in the Ministry of Defence, it has had to cut jobs.
Workers in Manchester, East Yorkshire and Lancashire, along with other areas where the firm has branches, could be faced with unemployment.
If a worker finds that they no longer have a job, they could consider taking a TEFL course in order to get back on the employment ladder.
That is because a TEFL course trains people how to teach English abroad, which means they could find a job overseas.
Hugh Scullion, general secretary of Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions, stated that he was shocked by these losses.
He said: "With the forthcoming defence review these cuts may be the tip of the iceberg but knee-jerk reactions from employers could make things even worse."
This follows the announcement that the Royal Bank of Scotland will be axing 3,000 jobs.
