Asian countries are the best for those teaching English abroad when it comes to finding new friends and making acquaintances, it has been discovered.
According to the HSBC International Expat Survey, those teaching English in Thailand are the most likely to strike up a friendship with a local.
The survey of individuals living and working overseas ranked Vietnam as the second most friendly place in the world, while Hong Kong and Malaysia appeared in the third and fourth spots respectively.
Sitting at the other end of the scale were, perhaps surprisingly, countries closer to home, as Belgium was found to be the least friendly place for expats, along with the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany.
Meanwhile, those living in the United Arab Emirates were found to be the most likely group to make friends with fellow expats.
Last week, a survey undertaken by Alliance & Leicester discovered that 87 per cent of expatriated Britons choose to retire overseas.
