‘Arrive a month early’ before teaching English in China

Posted 29 Apr 2010

Those keen to teach English in China would do well to arrive in the country a month or so before the semester begins, one blogger has said.

Chris Biddle, writing on The Otherside blog, stated that doing so allows teachers to travel the country and find a place where they will be comfortable living.

After they have settled on a place to live, people can then begin looking for nearby TEFL jobs.

"Arrive here a month or so before the semester begins, spend some time travelling around the country, find out where you want to live and then go about finding a job in that village/city/province," Mr Biddle wrote.

He added that finding TEFL jobs in China is easier than many people think, especially with a TEFL qualification.

Visit Asia’s managing director Hung Nguyen recently claimed that everybody wants to travel to the world’s most populous country at least once, which is why it is one of the most popular destinations for river cruises in the continent.
