About Me

I'm Kirsty, and I graduated in Psych what feels like a lifetime ago and I'm fairly sure that I'm having a mid-life crisis (at the ripe old age of 27)! :)
I need some excitement in my life - looking to mix things up a bit.......hopefully teaching English abroad will be mixy enough for me!  Living in Inverness is hardly what you'd call exciting!!
Just looking to get any insight/info on this whole process - my name really sums it up!  I'm a complete newbie!
My plans have changed slightly after being accepted to do a PGDE in Primary Teaching; but I still fully intend on going to South Korea - In fact, from the way the job market in Scotland's looking I might be there sooner rather than later.... :)

Quarter life crisis.....if i live to 112 that is

Ages since i've been in here! Too long! I started my Postgrad diploma in Primary Education and after a truly awful placement my whole teaching life has been thrown slightly off balance. Just kind of fed up of the Scottish education system to be honest - what kind of difference can I really make when i'm spread among 28 kids?? Not to mention the hours.....spending my spare time prepping for lessons is no problem at...

Real Life.......

....well, kinda real life anyway! I've been accepted to do a PGDE in Glasgow, which is highly exciting (for me anyway; i doubt very much that it'll be exciting to you guys!) BUT, I'm still really wanting to travel a bit - and not in a backpacker fashion.  I'm 5ft tall and weigh 100lbs - i can barely lift myself, let alone a bag containing all of my worldly possessions! :)  As the job market...

LOL, ya, I'm sick of people going 'oh, psychology, can you read my mind?' lol

Wow, thats amazing bout Uganda, thats such an ace job. Im going to do a Masters next year so Im making the most of the next year. Have you made up your mind yet? Im totally nervous about going teaching, but can't wait, so its good to knoew there are athers like me :) Where abouts is your friend? Im hoping to go towards the end of september, fingers crossed :)

(Hows Glasgow - I miss it, did my degree there)

Hey cheers for the add, How you getting on with your travel plans?

The course was a nightmare - just shows I was taught nothing about grammar when I was at school!

Yeah im sooo exited! Only 8 weeks til we go, time is flying by. Just can't wait to finish work and get out of here!!

Good luck with everything and I hope you manage to get away to sunnier climes after your course finishes :)

With a PGDE under your belt you'll have no prop getting a teaching job any where in the world :) best of luck with it :)

Yes it's def a small world! I love Glasgow - hope the course goes well.

I graduated 2 years ago and have been working since then. I've just become bored of it and wanted to do something different and travel - this combines both! Chose the internship as it will be my first time teaching so I think that's the best way for me to go, then hopefully I will love it and apply for other jobs. Can't wait to get away from here for a while!

Have you started your TEFL course?

hey! just saw your post about wanted to teach in south korea..Im the same.

when are you planning on going and did u find much information?

Hey how you doing? I saw your post about the ILA funding, I got my funding through last month but the process seemed to take forever. I wouldnt worry too much about the prices, at the end of the day whatever course you decide to take (obviously the more hours the better), ILA will take your £200 'token' off the overall price you pay when it comes through. Thats certainly the way it worked for me. It took just over 2 weeks for my funding to come through, by that time I was just desperate to start the course! If you're still unsure either phone ILA or i to i, I've found them both to be helpful with queries like yours.

Hope this helps.

By the way I see you're from Inverness, I was up there this weekend from Aberdeen to do the weekend classroom course, such a nice city!

Dave :)

Wow, someone else who thinks their going crazy at 26. Have you started a S Korea app and, if so, what does it contain?

Hiya :)

yeah i want go to south korea Im just doing the grammer module now, how far are you?

I would really like to go in March when are you thinking about going?

Kelly
