Well, at the minute I'm living in China teaching both adults and children in a city called Yiwu. I'm here for one year then planning to go to Mongolia, Tibet and Nepal for a few months of relaxation and then fingers definately crossed I will be teaching in Cambodia.
I have no contacts in Cambodia yet but spent a month there in 2007 and fell in love with the country, the people and the culture. Travelling is my life, I have been to some amazing places and am now hoping to find somewhere to call home. If this means I will be moving around for the next ten years then so be it.
I did my 20 hours weekend TEFL course in Leeds, England and have since done two online courses in business english and english for young learners. These courses helped me so much and I still refere back to them now. TEFL for me was a way to travel but the teaching has become very important to me now. I really want to make a difference.

I'm in Canada (where I grew up), and I'm thinking about TEFL as a way to travel and see the world! I don't have a university degree and I've read that my options will be limited because of that. I'd love to hear about your teaching experience as I have yet to speak with someone who is currently teaching!
Thanks,
Caitlin
What you're reading isn't actually true, there are loads of jobs here that do not require a degree in teaching. I did a few TEFL courses a couple of years ago and spent a year teaching in China and have just complated my first year here all without one. Salary and benefits change dramastically from schoolto school but the holidays are pretty great as there are a load of national holidays and I am lucky enough to work for an international school so also get a large winter/summer and spring break. To give you an idea, i have worked in two schools here one paid $900 and the other $1300 a month but it can range from $700-$2500, the latter only applying to those with teaching degrees and masters in English. There is rarely accommodation help so you have to find your own but it's not hard. As for volunteering, be careful as there are a lot of scams so make sure it's all above board first. Knowing Khmer will help, of course, I am learing but my level is pretty basic. Let me know when you get here and we can meet up for a drink or something. Best of luck.
Hi Ness, yeah my plans all over the place! I've been searching online & every place requires some sort of BACH or Degree! I'm only doing 140HR TEFL which I haven't really started yet so I was planning to turn up there & maybe do some voluntaring work for a lil while. I have friends who live there & I only came back in July! So I'm looking for connections at the moment cos I'm not sure if I'll actually finish my TEFL! I'm really stressing out cos I've been working 6days a week & haven't really made an affort. lol
Oh well, we'll see what happens when I'm there! I'm Cambodian Chinese so I know how to speak Khmer & hopefully it won't be hard to find a job!
How's Brighton? Whats the salary pack like there?
Hi Jodi, yes I'm still here and will be for some time to come. PP is a great place to live and I love it here. Are you moving here to teach? Do you have a school here yet?
Hi Ness, I saw your comment on someone's page & was wondering if you're still in PP? I'll be going in end of NOV and need a TEFL buddy!!!
A new school and a new start. I'm now helping set up a new school here in PP. The work is fantastic and the kids are great too. How could anyone not love this country??
Am at the moment now teaching in Phnom Penh in Cambodia. I have a beautiful apartment, live in a great city and have an amazing job at Bridgeton English school. Life is good, what more can i say.
Hi,
Are you looking to work in China?
Do you want to work with Kindergarten children?
Do you want a good Salary?
Do you want weekends off and two ½ days?
If you do, please contact me today. Our kindergarten needs teachers for the new semester starting September. We also have vacancies in our training centers. We are based in GuangZhou, Dongguan, and Foshan all in Guangdong Province, China.
Our school is called CIEO (Canadian International Education Organization)
If you want more details then please get in touch, If you know someone who might be interested then please forward this to them.
If you can’t start September don’t worry, you can still apply as we need teachers throughout the year!
All the best,
Robert
Hi
Replying to your message on my profile =)
I am living in Harbin, North East China. It's quite far from Yiwu but also very cold.
Sorry to hear you say that you are not enjoying your time in China. I read your post on noisy children, actually i had similar problems recently, we should discuss some solutions.
talk soon.
Hi Nessgell,
I will tell you that I like helping people and have taught people how to build houses and do carpentry for years. All the people that know me just tell me that I will do good teaching as I am a very patient person. when I meet someone that wants to learn then I will do all I can to help them. I have been looking into schools in Shenzhen, but I am open to a good area. I know many different people in different parts of China as I have visited there two times and really like it there. It would be nice to remain friends with you as you seem to be a encourager too. Thank you for your kindness and my best wishes for you.
