Hey! :)
Yes!! China is amazing!! So vibrant and alive!! I have really unstable internet at the moment, but I promise I will keep you updated!! :)
I know - it's difficult to choose isn't it! I've taught in China before and had an amazing time so I'd definitely recommend it - from hearing about others' experiences it also seems to be easier to find work in China than in South America. What attracted you to China and South America initially?
Btw, see you're already in touch with Rozel and Rin, but you might want to chat to these guys who are also teaching in China at the minute:

Also, have you heard about the China Internship at all? It's a great option if it's your first time teaching abroad as you get loads of support. There's likely to be an intake heading out in Feb, so might be perfect if you can't make the application deadline for August: http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/
Good luck with it all - get in touch if you have any questions!
Hey,
Thanks for the add! Hope you're enjoying Chalkboard - where are you hoping to head on your teaching adventures?

Hi there! :)
YES!! Leaving for the train in less than an hour!!
Had a bit of a cry yesterday, saying bye to my mum and stuff you know! Haha. I think I'll really miss my flat too! Its a great flat I love it.. You hear some right horror stories about teachers accommodation in China! I'm keeping my fingers crossed its not too bad!!
I'm off now, so, give me a week or so. Don't know how good my internet access will be to begin with! Should have things sorted in a fairly short time though!
Talk soon!
Love Rin xx
Hi, thanks for the message. I'm also a very big fan of Mayan culture. I just finished reading Jose Arguellese's Mayan factor and I've been to see their ruins around the Riviera Maya. I haven't yet been to South America, only Central. As far as I know, in order to teach English at universities in Mexico, preference is given to teachers with a degree of some sort. I have also heard that many people have been hired with their only qualification being English as their native language, so I think it depends where exactly one wants to teach and level of experience. Apparently, it is easier to find work at language schools but I have also heard of cases where teachers have walked into a university, been hired on the spot and a few days later they were teaching there. I only stayed around the Yucatan but it was the most incredible place I've been to. The people are warm and friendly, the beaches are beautiful, the language is Spanish and yes the Mayan history is another incentive to work there. I am very much looking forward to returning to Mexico and staying for a while to teach/ learn the language and I would definitely recommend it as a travel destination. Once I've conquered Mexico, I'll travel further South through Central America and then eventually to Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, et cetera.
So are you thinking of teaching there as well?
Hiya!!
Yes! I had an AWFUL time trying to find out about visas!! People where really helpful, but they kept saying different things!! What I have noticed is its basically different rules in different provinces for different people!. For example, some provinces won't offer a work permit and residence permit unless you have a degree. Others will. Also you have to take how persuasive your new employer is with the government. Basically, the province may say you need a degree for a work visa, but, if your school knows the local PSB well enough ( And offers enough money) theres a very good chance that the rules will be altered for you. From what I can gather no two things are the same for any two different people. For example, you and I could both be in Handan, with no degree. Your school may have more money to offer the PSB than mine. Therefore, you would likely find it easier than me to get a work visa. Sad but true!
Also you could apply one day and get turned down, try again the next and theres a good chance they will allow you a visa. Thing is, with our countries, the law is the law, and you know that government bodies follow the law in the West. In China, the laws seem to be more of a guideline than set in stone.
Sorry if none of that makes sense... I did try!! :)
hey, yes - I'm teaching in China. I'm on the internship so my school was found for me. I'm in the South which is both hot and beautiful! Any questions, just ask :-)
Hiya! :)
No bother. I'll do it by private message. Otherwise if I post it on here, they'll probably get tons of spam!!
haha yup Thailand does require a degree....so maybe I'll go there on holiday :)
South Africa is really beautiful, but I've never met a serbian....hmmm.....
Yeah I'm foinf a 100 hour online course plus business english, then while I'm there I'll do more. Im keen to actually get a teaching degree, and one in ancient civ and psych. So i'm gonna be studying till I die :)
