I am a nurse who is thinking about retiring in the next couple of years and I want to head south into either Mexico, Central or South America. I have been activley studying Spanish for the last three years and would like to become fluent in the language. I could acomplish that by living in a Spanish speaking country and perhaps by teaching English while I am there.

HI Mo, good news! I took the 120 hour course with i-to-i, found it reasonably easy and then got a job really quickly! I-to I have some kind of deal with my school, which I didnt realise when I applied, as I did so through a private ad. They call themselves partners but I dont really know what they mean by that. Not many schools here advertise on the net, but there are lots, and CHC can get you conteacts in local schools also, although they seem to do that more with experienced teachers.
Is that Quito behind you in the photo? If so the mountain must be maybe Cotopaxi or Antisana?
Hey,
Welcome to Chalkboard. Great to see you're interested in teaching in South America. What has attracted you to teaching there?
You may want to have a chat to some of these members who are currently teaching out there:

Enjoy the site and feel free to ask me any questions you have :-)
Since I just joined this chalkboard I am trying to learn how to navigate it. I do have questions about teaching English in other countries and getting the training through TEFL such as which course is the best? Are there any retirees on the chalkboard that would like to check in and introduced themselves? Anyone teaching in Central or South America? If so I would love to hear about your experiences.
This photo was taken in Ecuador, whichI found to be a beautiful and hospitable country.
