Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHey, I quit my PGCE, so at the moment, I am trying to find a job in Lancaster to see me out for the time being. I have been accepted on a Trinity TESOL course in Spetember though, which is very exciting! And I will still be going to HK in the summer. The recruiter in Korea has told me, basically, that I have done everything I need to for now, and I need to take the next steps in July/August time to leave in October, so it is just a waiting game really atm! How is everything going with you?
I am currently doing the online course and really want to be in South Korea, hopefully Seoul, by August or September. I saw that you just got there. How are you liking it so far? Any advice? Concerns? Thanks!
Hey, thanks for that. The quasar in bromley? Yeah i went to that once, a fine place it is too. I haven't done any tefl course at all as yet. Sounds like you're working long hours. Don't suppose you get much time to explore the place. Have you made friends in the time you've been in korea?
Hi there. I'm Max and I've been looking into the south korean teaching option too. I'd love to ask you loads of questions about it - I assume you're enjoying it? I wondered what hours you do, how much time off you get and whether or not you're working with other tefl teachers or alone in the school. Sorry to bombard you with questions but i'd love to hear all about it. By the way, you're from croydon? I'm a bromley dweller myself so we have that greater london connection it seems!
Thanks and all the best,
Max.
Good luck for your first week, hope its going well!
IN KOREA WOhOO!!!
Thanks for your message Ben, yes any hints and tips would be useful!
I have just started the 120 Hour online course, going well so far. I am just in the middle of the grammar sections (which is tough for me!) the rest looks ok though. How did you find the course?
I'll bet you are really excited for March, where abouts in Korea are you headed to? and how did you find your placement? Hope your visa comes through soon.
All the best
Gemma
Heya
Hong Kong is awesome! I would recommend it, although probably only for a short period of time! I think that 6 weeks was loads to have to see it, and although it is really cool to be going back, I don't think I'd want to do longer than that there in one stretch! Definitely worth a visit though, it is a really cool mix of cultures. I loved going to the night market :D Great fun, awesome food, and loads of souvenirs for people back home! Went nearly every week when I was there last.
Where have you taught before? Just in the UK? Or have you been abroad before? You are lucky you are able to do a gap year abroad! I would have liked to, between my undergraduate degree and my PGCE but if I lived outside of the UK I would have had to wait 3 years when I came back before I could do my PGCE (I'm from Jersey, so I don't automatically have home student status). I was fairly sure teaching was what I wanted to do, so I did a year (well, 5 months after I found a job) at a software company, and then started my PGCE. Gonna make up for the wait though next year :)
Hey again,
Sorry about the pointless earlier post, but if I hadn't written it, I'm sure I would have forgotten about you!
To answer your earlier question, yes, I am enjoying my teaching degree, but I find a lot of the academic stuff a little dull! I also find they put all the stressful stuff at once! Good practice I suppose! I'm doing secondary ICT, would you be interested in primary?
As for where in Korea, I haven't got a job yet, but I am hoping to go through an agency called www.teachkoreans.com, which is obviously web based. They mostly place people in Cheong Ju, so I will be placed there I should think! I didn't really fancy Seoul when I was doing my research, and it seemed like a good middle option (not too big, not too small!).
I have done a little teaching before in Hong Kong, as I said, so if there is anything I can help you with, let me know! As for ideas about teaching kindergarden kids, I would say songs are really awesome! And games, especially if you have the space. The little ones I taught in HK loved just getting out of their seats, marching around the room and singing! If you have the freedom to do that, it's great fun!
Hi Ben,
I saw your post on my blog, I would happily talk to you about stuff, although I am dashing out at the moment, just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know I will answer your questions shortly :) Also, if I forget, please feel free to drop me another note!
