Guayaquil, Quito, and others (Salinas, Manta, Cuenca, Loja) all have unique things about them (cities that are definitely worth visiting). It is a beautiful country (I love the highlands where you can find the naturistic part of it / others adore the beaches). The average foreign teacher's salary is about $650. If you are a smart shopper, you can live like a king. The culture is quite different if you are American or British. The typical American does not usually last here more than 3 months because they can't continue to tolerate the culture. Be tolerant....VERY TOLERANT.
I hope this helped.
