Concerned

The current political situation in Thailand is troubling.  I've read that there have been many protests and the problem seems to be escalating.  I've also read in the Bangkok Post that 67% of readers suggest foreigners stay away at this time.  This is very scary as i am supposed to be on a plane bound for Thailand 30 days from now.

Is there anyone on this forum who is THERE and can offer some peace of mind about the situation and how it will affect foreigners with plans to travel to Thailand in the near future?

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Bangkok-Red-Shirt-Rally-Live-Sund-t355198.html for live updates about the protests, seems I was wrong about it being peacefull, but i still think it will end soon.and foreigners will still be ok coming to thailand maybe just stay away from the protest areas until it calms down a bit.Good luck all.

I've just this minute done a blog post on the protests.  Should hopefully calm your fears a bit :-)

I would also just like to add that for foreigners you really have nothing to worry about (in regards to the protests) even the army that has set limits to the protest areas are not armed as this is just a peacefull protest.
i would worry more about the traffic in BKK lol.

Hi
I live in Thailand BKK, have done for the last year, if you are worried about the protests etc.. dont let it bother you coming here, i live 5 mins from were all the protests are happening they are peacefull now and i doubt very much it will get out of control, personally i think as soon as songkran (water festival) starts most of the protestors will just go home to see their family's thats on the 12th-15th april.

I hope i have helped, and have a wonderfull time if you do come to Thailand, its a very beautifull country.

Hi Mel,

All these guys are in Thailand at the minute, so you might want to get in touch with them to ask their advice:

We can also ask our partners in Thailand what their thoughts on the situation are if you like - just give us the word! Also, I know you're in the States, but this advice from the British foreign office might come in handy: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/asia-oceania/thailand
