Hi, I'm Matt, a 24 year old from West Yorkshire in the UK and I recently finished a degree in Zoology. I've just signed up to the Thailand internship starting in October.
I like to learn new things about people, cultures and the natural world. Being a bit of a science geek, I'm not particularly spiritual or religious. In fact I think Jesus is a bit like Calum Best really. He's just living off the back of his dad's fame (I had to get that quote in somewhere. One of my favourites. Karl Pilkington at his best).
I have many aims in life. As I love learning about different cultures, I'd really like to experience some as well. I also want to learn another language and I'm a bit of an Indie/Rock kid as well so I'd love to learn to play the guitar.
My friends have described me as a very chilled out, outgoing person that takes everything in their stride. The nicest thing they've actually said about me is that I'm a sarcastic, annoying, little blighter (they actually used something a bit more expletive than that) but I'm so endearing and lovable I can get away with it. I probably won't see them for like a month now they've said that. Northern blokes don't normally express their feelings for one another like that. It might be awkward for a while. Haha!
I'd like to hear from other people that are also doing the Thailand internship. It'd also be great to talk to people already out in Thailand and hear about your experiences.

I'll not pretend I know what a girder is, but I imagine I'd be a bit miffed if one whacked me! Especially if such an injury would prevent me from joining the rest of the TEFL crew out in Thailand..... (take note). Ashamed to admit that I have indeed still been neglecting it, but after a long week of manual labour, getting out at the weekends seems much more appealing than learning about grammar...no?!?! Although did get around to sending the application off and my friend and I have been accepted so that's some kind of progress surely?? Where you at with it???
That makes me feel very bad indeed....I am so envious of you finishing the grammar course! The last thing I want to do after a long day at work is look at grammar but i need to start getting serious and not putting it off..i have only finished module 1 of the grammar course and thats it - bad times! And I have my 20 hour contact course this wknd and do not feel ready for it at all...i am sure i should be further along in my course to be ready for this! Before we know it we will be flying out there and actually teaching! crazy!
Hey Matt,
I'm signed up for the supported Thailand package so slightly different to what you're on but it means i'll be out in Thailand teaching for 5 months from October with my boyfriendl! Hows the online course going? I'm struggling through and am hoping to finish soon! Have you started sorting out your flights and things yet? Theres seems to be quite a few of you lot signed up now so thought i'd introduce myself before we take the plunge! Not sure whether we will be on the same orientation as you?! I think the supported package one starts on the 23rd Oct. Our plans are to go a couple of weeks early though and travel around the north of Thailand first. When are you planning to go out?

You are right - the hockey festival was just an excuse to drink in a field for two days whilst hockey balls fly about your head...i found a can of gin and tonic at the side of the pitch to be very helpful! I still haven't got down to actually doing the TEFL course...I know its pretty important to the whole Thailand thing but with working full time and socialising in the weekends it is being neglected..however I have booked in a prime time slot for it on a SATURDAY! shocking i know! Ofcourse I will then be going out on the Saturday night to recover from mind boggling grammar...How are you getting on with it anyway? I have finally told work I'm going so I now spend my time daydreaming about the Thailand beaches rather than doing any work...
Do you want to be a foreign teacher in our school? www.2jiaoyu.com my skype ID:kyddy1214
Sorry for the delayed reply, started the summer job and working all hours so been neglecting all things tefl related - eek! It's basically packing biscuits/cakes etc (mind-numbingly boring) in a place near where i live, they have a temporary intake of students over summer...although technically im not a student anymore! But the pay is good so should have a few bob to bring with me. How's your job going?? I know what you mean...not sure how im gonna handle a class full of kids, hopefully they will go easy on us!! :)
You sound very busy with your hols to Zante and V festival coming up too - well I have just been to Switzerland for a few days which was lovely! and off to a hockey festival this weekend with my brother which should be a laugh although I am not hoping for a repeat performance of the last camping trip I went on when it rained the whole time...fingers crossed for some sunshine! I have to try and squeeze in the TEFL course too at some point..especially as I have got my acceptance through and its actually happening! Before we know it it will be time to leave! Hope the job is going well?
