First time travelling alone ...

Well as I was thinking about travelling to the China Internship alone, I wanted to see how I would cope travelling alone, and make sure if there was anything I really didn't like or worried about that I could put things in place to overcome this... So I booked a mini trip to Paris for 4 days alone, to see how I would get on!

It was....AMAZING! I have never felt so free, just wandering around and getting lost, staring at things and not being rushed around by others. Of course I am a socialite but I also like to be self sufficient. I wandered up to Pere Lachaise to see the grave of the great James Douglas Morrison, I'd wanted to go for years but never got round to it! The most beautiful place was the Notre Dame... I was in there for quite a while and pictures could never capture the beauty.

I stayed in a hostel, sharing a room with 5 other people (which as a person who has lived alone for 6 years was a very daunting prospect). It was wonderful! I met people from all over the world, had brief chats with some, and have stayed in touch with others. I went and saw the nightlife every night, and found that the people I thought were staring at me were very friendly if spoken to!

Anyway... first babystep taken! Roll on China!

Thanks Melek, I'm not sure what my movements will be but if I'm heading North i will definately try and touch base- likewise if you are in London let me know and I'll get my son to show me where to meet you as I have NO idea where anything is!!!!. It would be awesome to meet up for a drink  or whatever. Jane (from Milton Keynes)has also invited me to catch up with her if possible.

Fingers crossed as it would be great to know someone in China who will be there at the same time.....and who knows we might all be close together or able to meet up during holidays while there. Who knows what our futures hold.............

Oh wow! That's great! If you want to see any of the north side of England give me a buzz when you're over, I live in Sheffield which is middle top of England. I have my dad's side of the family in London, so it would be cool to meet up with you sometime!

Way to go Melek......its amazing what we can achieve when we set our hearts and mind to it. You are SO lucky being based "on the other side of the world", it seems that it is so much easier to travel without the long haul flight from Australia!!!!!!
That said, I too am heading off "alone" .... am heading to the UK and Europe for about 8 weeks in
April. I have a son living south of London who I will base myself with ( keep my excess luggage there!!). Have booked myself n a 20 day tour of Europe (alone) as I have never been before and figured that was the easiset way to see the sights for a novice. Always promised myself that once my boys were independent I would do this trip so here I am heading off on a new adventure......

Yeah thanks! XD I have had a few silly comments like ... What you go on your own for? Haven't you got any friends... lol! But it's just the opposite actually, thinking about going away again at easter if I can afford it! St Christopher's Inns Hostel was brilliant and I reccommend it to anyone, they have hostels in Prague, Berlin and other places so maybe I'll travel there soon!

:) xxx

Awesome, Glad you enjoyed it! Traveling alone is definatly the best way (becuase you meet more people!).

I also absoultly love living in Hostels :D

Melek, that is fantastic and so inspirational.  I went to Pere Lachaise three years ago, intended to pop in for half an hour and was still there 4 hours later - such a fascinating place!

I'm really impressed with your courage to just go for it alone for a few days and that you enjoyed it too.  You've set the standard for all of us now!

Jane.

Wow - that's great Melek - glad you had a good time!
