I am getting tense about tense :D

Hi all

I seem to be just about stumbling over the line when it comes to passing the grammar modules and my main failing seems to be understanding the tenses.

Can anyone advise a simple way of remembering how the different tenses should be applied?

I am sort of grasping certain ones, such as past simple, past perfect but others I am inclined to keep getting wrong.

I would appreciate any tips or advice.

Ah Thnks!

Yep i know what u mean, I've actually moved away from grammar started something else and will go back to it in a bit. I really want to be done by the end of October, so really want it all, but i wanted it yesterday.. LOL.

Hi Essie, I know what you mean. I had to go back to basics and start at what would be considered a low level and have gradually built back up to a more advanced level, although I am still finding some of the tenses hard to grasp.

It is coming to me, albeit slowly, and it will sink in for you too. Don't doubt yourself, that will only add another mental obstacle in your path. It will come, it just takes time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling here as the grammar bit is doing

my head in and seriously making me doubt myself and my ability to teach. I've actually ordered myself the teaching english as a foreign language for dummies, just to try and teach myself that which i would need to teach others! Lord help me!

I've added so many websites to my favorites list, that i'm afraid i might run out of space soon.

Hi Paul, yes it is a good web site and here on here there is a Help!,im stuck on my TEFL course section which is worth checking out  Emma can be found at (http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/emmafoers ) or email the TEFL Helpdesk at helpdesk@tefl-training.com. and also on various posts offering help.Hope this helps.

Regards

Mark

Thanks Barvida, what a useful tool and a very insightful website overall.

Where can I get hold of the i-toi tutors on here for advice?

Thanks Paul

Hi Maverick,I had the same problem as yourself and Emma the i-to-i tutor gave me this link.

Try this website for a quick intro http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/words/grammar/tenses/getting_the_right_tense/game.shtml .  When doing the grammar quiz it may be useful to have two windows open so you can refer back to the notes in the module.

Hope it helps.

Hi Gemm....I have been reading up again today and hoping that it all eventually makes sense. I find that if I leave the grammar course for a few days and I don't look back on the notes I have taken, then I forget some of it....so it's sort of there but not sinking in without a quick check of the notes. I want to be able to just know the answer with a little though, than I'll know I am finally understanding it all.

I sometimes have to just leave the grammar alone as it sometimes seems to blend into one and it gets even greyer than before.

Yes, my head does feel as if its going to drop off my shoulders but I feel it may self-implode first :D lol
