About Me
Without any formal training, I've just been teaching for nearly 7 months on the Galápagos Islands. As I'd enjoyed the experience and would love to go back to Ecuador I thought it be wise to get at least some kind of formal training so I'd be more qualified to teach ESL.
Luckily for me, there is a school on the islands intrested in hiring me with payment, just have to keep my fingers crossed now until December when they will tell me if I actually got the job or not :)

Okay... so after 3 job offers in Ecuador last week I decided to go to Cuenca to work for some time for CEDEI. Made the final decision on Sunday, got the paperwork on Tuesday, had an appointment at the embassy on Thursday, booked a ticket on Thursday and was on my way to Ecuador on Sunday!! Hey MariekeE, I am looking to teach in Ecuador and noticed that your teaching and living in Cuenca, What is it like living there? Im a bit nervous as it is so far away and I have heard there is quite a lot of crime, have you experienced this?
I have always dreamed of going to South America but before I make the big decision I just need a little feedback from people who have already done it as I dont know anyone who has been to Ecuador!!

Hi MariekeE. I will be teaching in the Galapagos in October (short term, fisrt timer!!!)and it was suggested that you know all there is to know:-) So can give a me a little taste of what to expect please. eg Standard of education of 6-12 yr olds.Where, and where not, to go and see. Essentials and non essentials
In fact anything I would be extremely grateful to help quell my, so excited/terrified yo yo emotons. Thats leaving out the trying to learn Spanish!!!!! and remember the TEFL.
Thanks Mariekee, good to know it was the same for others. Hopefully will finish it by the end of the month. It is tough getting used to sitting down and doing "homework" again after so many years!
