So, I quit my PGCE. There were a few reasons for it, and when I say quit, I simply mean postponed. I have the opportunity to go back to it in February 2012. I quit around mid-March and since then have been looking for a job of some sort to tide me over until summer. Well, looks like that is unlikely to happen! I am in Lancaster, which has been hit hard by the recession. Every other shop is closed at the moment, and so jobs are scarce. It also doesn't help that I've never worked on a bar or in a cafe before. I have a little shop experience, but not a lot.
Honestly, it has actually been quite a tough time! I have been super strapped for money and stuff, but through various sources, nearly all of whom are related to me, I now have enough that I should, as long as I get my deposit back (which seems likely, our landlord is lovely!), be able to pay all my debts off (still paying for the PGCE) and have a tiny bit of money to spend. I am also due a tax refund, and if that comes through, I should be able to have a wonderful time in Hong Kong. God is good!
In better news, I am definitely going to Hong Kong. I am teaching for 5 weeks and then travelling China for one. My friend Nicola is coming with me, and I'm super excited!! I was supposed to be teaching for 6 weeks, but they got the dates wrong, which lead to me being there for the wrong 6 weeks. It is all good though! I am excited :D If anyone has any suggestions on where to go in China, not too far from HK, then please let me know. We are thinking of going to Zhuhai, Guangzhou and possibly Shenzhen, although now I have read a little on Shenzhen I'm not sure I fancy it. We don't want to be too far from Hong Kong, as we are flying back from there, so we only have 6 days.
I am, at the moment, counting the days a little until I get to go to Hong Kong. My dad is coming to pick me and my stuff up from England on the 19th June, so I will be socialising as much as I can for free before then! I will miss people in England when I go :( I am then back to Jersey for a month, where I will hang out with my family and go to the beach (woo! Summer!) as well as catching up with my friends from home as well. I will miss them when I go too!
I then fly to HK from Manchester airport (I am trusting that I will get the money to get from Jersey to Manchester!!) on the 16th July. It should be fun! I fly via Doha, which I can't get a visa for unfortunately, as I have a 9h45m stop over on the way back. Still, I am excited!
I then come back to Jersey, do a Trinity TESOL course, which should be interesting, through September and then hopefully, travel to England, do a little bit of a tour of my friends before going to Korea! How exciting!

I know that, I quit, well postponed, it half way through, which meant the government no longer fund me, which is what I was living off. They will continue to fund me if I take it back up, but I'm not doing that for a couple of years.
PGCE might be fundable through the government, so you won't need to pay for it (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/index.htm).
Good luck in HK.
