Nonsan Strawberry Festival

One of the things I want to do a little more of this year is travelling. I have my trip home planned and my trip to Thailand for the summer is coming together. However, I'd also like to see a little more of Korea. With this in mind I thought it might be fun to go to the Nonsan Strawberry Festival. It was this weekend and only about an hour away from Daejeon. So the...

A ramble - My life at the moment

So I'm currently sitting in my school on a sunny Friday afternoon waiting for my student to turn up. It's nice having regular hours in this job (my last one was a split shift, 6:30am to 9pm, this one is 9am-6pm) but it does mean I miss the whole day. Oh well! Tomorrow is the weekend! I am really enjoying this job at the moment. I have 5 native speaker coworkers (three Americans, 1 South...

I saw this and it looked interesting

http://www.tefl.com/jobs/job.html?jo_id=50567   I don't know how many of you have a CELTA or equivalent, but I think it would be a pretty interesting job! Just goes to show there are a lot of places in the world you can work :) This has nothing to do with me by the way, just saw the advert and thought it looked cool (I'm still in Korea for a while).

CIA language school, Cheongju

Just a quick note, in case anyone gets offered the job on here (it's just started being re-advertised), I worked for CIA language school in Cheongju for  months, just before my contract was completed they fired me. This was November . At the risk of sounding like a disgruntled ex-employee, this was entirely so they didn't have to pay my bonus (they even told me it was about money). I enjoyed the  months I spent...

Bills in Korea

So, something I get asked sometimes is how much bills are in Korea. I just paid mine for the last two months, plus a penalty for not paying last month (a whole 2,200W/$2.20) and it came to about £60. In winter I use more gas, but less electricity. However, that's probably not far off average, so I guess they are probably for me (I heat my appartment in the evening, I don't like to be...

Korean 101

Firstly, a disclaimer! My Korean is terrible! However, I suggest that everyone going to Korea learns these pretty soon after they get out there, if not before. You can practice all the time when you are over there, just read every sign. You'll be amazed by how much is English in the Korean alphabet. To start you off, I've just given you the basic vowels (there are more) and consonants. Although I've tried to give...

Christmas in Cheongju, Korea

Well, I now live in Daejeon, but I went back to Cheongju (which I like to think of as my home town :D) for Christmas.  The festivities kicked off with me going shopping on Friday night (at 9pm) for the last little bits for the Christmas dinner I was helping to cook the next day. I was joining with my church to cook the dinner and we were expecting about 100 people (although I didn't...

Cost of living in Korea

People always ask about this, and it is hard to find good information. I'm not saying mine is brilliant, but I thought it might give people an idea about what I spend on things if I went through some recent receipts and gave you a breakdown of what I spent. If you want any further information on prices, just let me know and I can probably find out prices for you. At the supermarket: 8...

Looking for a 6 month contract in Cheongju

I am looking for a 6 month contract starting at the beginning of December, located in Cheongju. I have a year experience working in a mostly adult hagwon (with an average of 6 elementary lessons, 2 middle school lessons and 3 teaching hours of kindergarten a week). I would be most interested in adult or elementary hagwon positions.
