Log in to leave a comment or Create an account@bergen021: hey, yeah, i have lived & taught here in Poland for 2.5 years. shoot me any questions you have. it seemed complicated and a pain going through all the embassy stuff when i first did it, but turned out ok.. hopefully it will for you, too.
I am in the process of getting my work Visa now. I am a US citizen and will be teaching in Poland as of late February; because I am going to Poland and am a US citizen, there is no fee. I'm not sure if this applies to all countries if you are a US citizen or what, though. It is difficult and extremely time consuming. My employer tried to assist me by sending me all of the necessary paperwork - but it was in Polish and I wasn't even able to read it. I did a weekend course via i-to-i in Boston, MA and I found it to be very beneficial. If there were more offered that were close to me, I would have definitely gone to them. Laslty, someone suggest I talk to you about Poland - are you there now? If not, when will you be there? Any suggestions you could offer?
Hey,
Thanks for the quick and very useful reply!
I would definitely be interested in applying for SPEED. If you could put me in touch with those in charge then that would be great. My email is jacktorr@msn.com. I'm actually coming over to Wroclaw next week for a bit and then heading up to Gdansk so I could maybe meet up with the DOS earlier if required.
Cheers!
Jack
Hey,
Thanks for getting in touch. No problem.
Yeah, I think SPEED is a good (easy) school to teach for. Provide you with plenty of hours & fair pay. Definitely need teachers & I hear that we may be getting some through i-to-i, so I would recommend applying. I can put you in touch with the necessary people if you would like, too.
Don't know any other schools very well, & don't know much about legal English except that we had a business class that wanted that.
SPEED mostly using direct English (formerly Callan but now Avalon), but using some other methods as well, but all quite easy to learn & use.
Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with those in charge of hiring & give me you email if so.
Best,
Zachary
Hey Zach,
Just signed up for my 140hr TEFL course and am planning to work in Wrocław after finishing it as my girlfriend currently lives there. Managed to visit the city quite a lot recently and I really like it...
Anyway, I was just wondering if you still work at Speed in Wrocław? I've had a good look at schools in Wrocław online and as I can't afford to do a CELTA this year, it looks like a really good school to work at as I have no experience (it's basically a Callan school, right?) What's it like? Is the school looking for new teachers? Would you recommend any other schools in Wrocław to work for? When do you think is the best time to start applying?
I was also planning to teach legal english as I think I'm quite qualified to do this- I was just wondering if you know if there is much demand for this?
Sorry for all the questions! I'd really appreciate any info you can give me :D
Cheers, Jack
Hey Zach thanks for messaging me back, it's given me a bit more of an idea of what to expect. I'm going to Gdansk, when i eventually sort myself out. I know Poland is part of the EU, But do we need any special visa to work there, or are ok to just start working there?? is accommodation fairly easy to find, as my partner will be moving back to Poland after i do, so i need to find somewhere first. Thanks again for your help, it is really appreciated :)
Simon
