Hi guys,
I finished my 140-hour TEFL course about a week ago and have a Skype interview lined up this evening with a language school in Prague. I'm stressing out a bit as I've had to prepare a 45-minute lesson plan for a business English student and will have to 'teach' a part of it to the interviewer! Trouble is, I still can't imagine myself as a real-life teacher! Has anyone else out there done a similar interview? If so, I'd really appreciate any advice you may be able to offer.
I'd also love to hear from anyone currently teaching in Prague. Are you enjoying it? Are a teacher's wages enough to live on? Is it easy to get to know people? I'm from New Zealand and have always wanted to live and work in Europe ...
Cheers,
Lorna

I'm afraid that Prague is renowned for being the 'sweat-shop' of TEFL. Demand is reasonable but there are far more teachers than jobs hence wages are low and working conditions fairly poor. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule (although the schools I looked at weren't them!) but if standard of living is important to you, it might be worth looking for work in places such as Brno, Olomouc and Ostrava, all of which are in the East of the country.
In terms of meeting people, I can't imagine you'd have any difficulties in Prague since there are so many foreigners, many of whom will also be English teachers.
Congratulations on finishing your course and getting a interview so quickly! You may want to have a chat to this girl, who is from Australia and now teaching in the Czech Republic, I'm sure she'll be able to give you lots of help and advice about working there:

Good luck with your interview, let us know how you get on :-)
That's really great that you've only just finished and already got yourself a job interview. It must be feeling very surreal for you. I have no advice at all as I am still completing the course, but would love to hear how you go as I am planning on moving to Prague when I finish. Good luck for your interview, I'm sure you will do great.
