TEFL cert & jobs

Well about 10 days in to my TEFL course now and so far just over halfway with no real problems. I have agreed to take the 100 hour course with the option to take a 40 hour extension, this is the key part for me the 20 hour assessment training days in Leeds wil really show if I have what it takes to be a teacher!.

Because of all the excitement I thought I may as well list my CV on a website to see how things work. Within a few days I have had a school "Oden English Training School" who have virtually offered me a job, with no Skype/interview or anything other than e-mail communication.

I find this a little too good to be true so far, I have entered dialogue with a person by the name of Miss Sophia Yue and she just wants me to get on a plane, train in Beijing for 10 days and the head to Xian.

The school has a website but since its been authored in Chinese my browser can't really make sense of it, link http://www.odenenglish.com/

I am going to mull this over the weekend so it there is anyone out there with any thoughts/recommendations about the school please offer some guidance,  as once I have handed my notice to my employer there is no going back lol.

Thanks

Hey, well done on the job offer!

If you're wary, put the name of the school into google and see what people on forums say. Ask them if you can email a foreign teacher already at the school. If they say no, then I'd be cautious.

Hey Gary,

Congratulations on being offered a job! You're right to be wary, but schools are often generally keen to get teachers to start ASAP. The only thing that's worth nailing down before you head out is your contract and working conditions. There's a good list of things to look out for here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/emmafoers/posts/625-6-things-to-check-before-accepting-your-tefl-job

Good luck and make sure you let us know how you get on!

My friend, pack your bags, turn in your notice and step into a whole new life. You dont say if you live alone or with others. If alone, you need to make sure you have enough to cover your rent and all until you leave and you'll need to get your things in storage. Then do it. If you live with family or friends, let them know you want to do this and you need their help...covering rent, keeping your things.

A leap of faith into what is going to be a great new life.
