I am currently stuck in a job I hate and wish to do something better with my life. I am 34 and probably should be settled by now, but after my housemate said she was going travelling I am considering TEFL more and more.
Can anyone give me an advice?
Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!

i need TEFL course online?
I can see where you are coming from. I currently have 2 jobs and am not afraid of hard work. I've been given a couple of contacts who have given very positive reviews of south korea
Hey Lexi!
I was in the same situation last summer and took the plunge. I did a TEFL course in London this August and ended up in spain...this job went totally wrong and I stayed for 4 days before coming over to Italy. I am half italian so thought looking for a job would be quite easy. Well I ended up getting a job in a town called ancona...totally dislike the town, should of done my research! That is all I can suggest really, do your research first!! Im now going back to London for a bit and am going to try and decide where it is I REALLY REALLY want to go too.
Also moving away from home where you dont know anyone can be quite hard...I love being on my own and am quite happy to just watch the world go by with a good book, but as one poster commented work is work...you still have to get up five, sometimes six days a week and go to your job, life becomes very normal, just as it is at home.
BUT I would still say do it, I have had one bad experience with the place that im in, but the teaching is great! YES DO IT!
x
I really recommend that you do it!
I saw TEFL advertised whilst seaching for for some part time jobs after I qualified in English Lit and saw an advert to teach abroad.
Came to this site took the course and now I am leaving for Africa in Jan to teach!
By all means take a TEFL course but do it for the right reasons - hating your life at home is not a good enough to jump into teaching. As much as I love teaching - and I really do - I would be the first to admit that it's not always an easy ride, that work is still work wherever you are and that life in the sun can be just as difficult as life in your home country, sometimes more so thanks to the language barrier, the loneliness or the culture shock.
If your sole reason for considering TEFL is because your housemate is going travelling, I'd think long and hard before committing to anything. If however you really are interested in teaching people in another country (note teaching NOT travelling), then do you research, find out what's required and sign up to an appropriate TEFL course.
