Suppose this needs an update!
Hey everyone! I'm 24 and currently residing in Shrewsbury, Shropshire until I leave on my next 'outing' which starts on the 1st July. I'll be getting the train from England to Beijing over the course of 60 days with the major stops being Budapest, Exit Festival (Novi Sad, Serbia), Belgrade, Moscow, St Petersburg, Irkutsk, Ulan Bator and Beijing.
Currently signed up to do the Chinese teaching internship starting in August but falling behind on the TEFL course so still hoping it works out... even if it doesn't I'll be in China trying to figure something else out so its all good! Who needs plans anyway! :P
I've backpacked in Australia & New Zealand for 15 months in 2008 & 2009 and really looking forward to doing Asia next - I saw TEFL as a way of doing this. Look forward to seeing you out there!
I'm heading to China in March!

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHey Leon, I'm now back in the UK so won't be able to meet up in Asia this October. I'm loving reading your blog, keep it up! If you haven't been to Vietnam then get your butt over there, as far as I'm concerned, its the Dogs Doodah's. Hanoi is a crazy place and you can get beer for 14p a pint. ;o)
Hey - sure - the construction is complete now. It isn't a 5 star I remind ya but the people and place is great. When you get here and can get to a phone you can reach me at 15810634528 - just punch this in as a local # and usually a local call is 5 jiao - 1/2 kuai. :) - Maybe head to a bar or just buy some beers and hang out here maybe? See ya soon. Let me know what you end up doing - I may answer the phone sooner than my email right now :)
Hey, it's a shame you won't be teaching in China. Your posts have been really helpful and informative. You inspired me to look into the train journey from Moscow to Beijing. Good luck with your job... V
Hey Leon, Congrats on the new job but shame that its stopping you doing the China Internship. But hey, maybe the universe is just telling you 'not yet . . . there's something better round the corner if you're patient!'
I'm not TEFL-ing either. Still haven't finished the course, think I'm about halfway through and am rapidly coming to the realisation that its not really for me. I've loved teaching Management & Personal Development for the last 13 years but I'm getting a sense that I need to do something different with my life now (woohoo, third career on its way!). Will probably finish off the course once I'm back from Asia as its a useful skill to have, I just have no intention of doing it full time! Did you finish the course? If so, then that means I have to buy the beer - fingers crossed you're still working on it, I might have chance to get ahead again!
Sounds like you're having a fab time on your travels, keep updating the blog and have a stupendous trip. Oh and thanks for the packing tips, its made me realise that taking the entire wardrobe to asia is not an option!
Hey Everyone,
Sorry to say but there has been a change of plans for me. I've been offered a job I can't really turn down come October so it doesn't look like I'll be teaching (still a chance just not as big). I'm still doing my trip, in fact I've already started and currently in Budapest, and will still be in Beijing from the 20th August so would be cool to meet up with a few of you!
My trip details can be found on my website: www.leonslost.co.uk and you can get hold of me by e-mail (leon.pritchard at gmail.com) or skype leon_pritchard
Wish you all the best of luck and hope to catch up with a few of you next month.
Exit festival is immense! Let me know if you need any travel advice.
Sounds good - enjoy the trip - I knew someone that did the Siberian train and loved it so whatever side-trips you are doing by train I think you will like it - just stack up on books (or what I am doing is taking an e-reader so I have many books in a tiny little thing!!) TTYL
Awesome - ya a hostel I am staying in is called the Far East Youth Hostel - I have stayed there before - amazing spot and cheap rates! It was actually a hotel at one point so it makes it that much nicer. It is a 10min walk from T'square, and around the bend from a great outdoor food court where you can get almost anything on a kibab! lol. I am flying in on the 18th or 19th I am hoping so maybe we could meet up - that would be great - you can find the hostel at fareastyh.com I am sure. Let me know if you have any questions :)
Yo Leon- how was your weekend course? Who was your tutor? Nearly finished my online course- just phonetics left to do! 2.5 months and we'll all be in Beijing- NICE!
Hey mate, hope the weekend course went well! Thanks for sending me your dates, it would be massively cool, but I've literally just got time to do the 6day trip and you're about a week ahead of me anyway :( once you've negotiated getting from whichever train station in beijing the train comes into to the hostel, any tips will be worth your body weight in beer/noodles tho :)
(p.s. happy bday for whenever in May it is!)
