Unfortunately I don't have too much encouraging to say.  There is a need for teachers in France but its complicated.  If you go to a big city, you should be able to find freelance work or work with an agency supporting private students.  There are also deals for students on a temporary basis, helping teachers.  I'm sure its not well paid, but you could probably get enough to live and supplement with extra lessons or working with an agency.  The most important is to be in a big city where the market will be big enough.  There is also a business networking group which started in France called Viadeo, which might be useful once you were here (or even beforehand).  Bon courage
