5 Reasons to Teach English in China

Did you know that there are more people learning English in China than the entire population of the United States? That adds up to a massive demand for TEFL teachers, making it the number one TEFL destination. But it isn’t the high demand for TEFL teachers that makes China so attractive, oh no! Check out these five reasons of why you should be packing your bags and heading to China ASAP.

Psst: If you’re wanting to head to China yourself, you could be jetting out there in August on the Teach in China Internship.  You’ll have an incredible five months teaching out there with 24/7 support and full training before you go..

1- Food, Glorious Food

So I’m sure most of you are a fan of Chinese food, but it’s not until you go to China that you can experience real Chinese food at its best! No matter which city, town or village you go to in China, you’ll easily be able to get your hands on delicious, cheap and freshly cooked food. Food in China is a massive part of the culture and you can certainly tell!

2- Friendly Locals

As the new TEFL teacher in town, you’ll find the locals will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. You’ll be inundated with offers of meals and tours of the local area. It may as well be a law in China to make sure Westerners are made to feel welcome!

3- The Great Wall of China

It still amazes me that the Great Wall of China isn’t one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Any man-made structure that can be seen from space is a must-see! You can see the crumbling ruins of Simatai or the restored sections at Badaling for a taste of what it was like in the middle ages.

4- Fascinating Culture

China has such a fascinating culture and it’s only when you’re living and teaching there that you really get a feel for the culture. From colourful wedding traditions to many vibrant festivals, Chinese culture is certainly something else!

5- Amazing Scenery

China doesn’t have a good reputation for its scenery with all the smog and ugly buildings, but if you look beyond that you’ll find that many parts of China have beautiful scenery with spectacular rock formations emerging from misty rivers, serene temples and spectacular skyscrapers. And the bonus of teaching English in China? You’ll usually have the weekends free to explore all this amazing scenery.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge is just one of many wonderful scenic places to visit
