Quito is great just keep an eye on your purse! There are volcanoes all around the city with snow on. The old part of town is gorgeous: worth spending a day there for sure. Dont walk up to the Angel statue its too dangerous, get a taxi. The woman in my hostel reckoned its safer to get a grey taxi than a yellow one but I never had any trouble. Its much more expensive there than here but well worth a look.
Great, you are far more organised than me - when do you arrive?
Hi
I think you will need a police check, I´m having problems cos I didn´t bring one but I´m not too bothered what happens - I´m not going home right now and that´s that! Get it legalized if you can, and definitely your tesol certificate. You may need it translated too, but that can be done here. Loja is a cool town ans as Kallen says, Vilcabamba (about 40KM from here) is famous for being beautiful and apparently if you swim in the river there you wont get old. In fact its residents have the longedt life expectancy in Ecuador. What more reason do you need?? Alxx
Ecuador is a beautiful country. I am quite sure you are going to enjoy it. You should not leave the country before seeing Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca, Vilcabamba, Montanita (they are the best places in my opinion and my Ecuadorian friends seem to agree too). I hope to meet you someday. Maybe, I will see you and Alix at the same time. I am going to take a trip out there in the next month or so. I was also considering working there in Loja too. Lately, I have been getting quite a few job offers so I am trying to weigh it all out and decide what will be best for me.
Alix has been in Loja for quite a bit so she could help you with whatever you need. If you ever decide to work in La Costa, feel free to contact me (for I could put you in contact with some of my friends that are teachers in this region). Or if you just want to visit, let me know a few weeks ahead and I'll try to make some free time to show you Guayaquil or Montanita.
Wow, going abroad with a young kid! I'm impressed - most of the people I know doing this are unattached. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
