I love spain! I've spent a bit of time there travelling in vans and stuff and I lived in Gibratar for six months which was just lovely. The Spanish are pretty cool on the whole but they don't really like the typical drunken Englander, so you sometimes have that stereotype to overcome. I really love the south when you have got away from the costa as you get fantastic sea food. In the north you've got the Catalan and Basque areas which are completely different again. If you're anywhere near the NE, go to the Salvador Dali museum in Figueras, north of Barcelona, you wont regret it! Just watch out for the Guardia Civil - they are armed and it's best to do what they say.
Best of luck,
Alix
Hey Ken,
Thanks for the ad! If you're just planning on going to china for a few months you should totally look into the China internship - it last four and a half months and you get loads of support: http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/. You can check out people's experiences of it here: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/groups/3-Teach-in-China-Internship
Best of luck with it all and if you need any advice or have any questions feel free to get in touch!
Depends on which city you'll be in. Have you chosen one yet?
As far as month-to-month goes, I think many schools have you sign a contract, the minimum of which is usually 3-6 months. If you want m-t-m, private tutoring's the way to go...but that's a fickle job market.
Thanks Edna. Ideally I'm planning on going there for a few months so hoping I can get something month-to-month right now. Can you suggest a good school?
There's a constant demand for English teachers, so the problem's really not so much finding a job but making sure all your legal paperwork (like visa & housing permit) is properly squared away. Do your research about English schools (personally, my friend just got screwed over royally by Shane English so I wouldn't recommend them) so that you know you won't be taken advantage of. Also, you might not encounter the greatest standards either- I mean, I was hired to teach at age 19, without any teaching training or experience. Again, this goes back to making sure you find a good school.
Other than that, no matter what city you're in, it's a blast to do. You're gonna have a lot of fun!
Heading to China soon...looking for a teaching job. Any recommendations?
