My name is Kayla Collier. I am an 18 year old 5th year highschool student in Canada. From the beginning of grade 9 I've always been interested in the foreign students who attend my school. It wasn't until the beginning of grade ten that I learned thoroughly about teaching English as a second language overseas, i was completely intrigued. When I was little I always took interest in places such as Japan, and China but I didn't know I could travel there to work! After learning about TEFL I started to interact with the Foreign students in my classes, and they told me how wonderful I was at helping them understand what our teachers couldn't explain to them. Soon I had best friends from India, China and Korea, and I was starting to use their slang words when with them. There is only one class in our school which specializes in teaching them basic English, and the teacher in that class suggested to me that I should look further into that field. That made me even more motivated to get where I need to in order to be able to teach English as a second/foreign language. So here I am! I do plan on going to college and taking a TEFL program, however, I want to know everything I can about this wonderful job, Experiences, tactics, skills. EvERYThing. I also would like to learn more about volunteering. Thanks!
I love languages! I'm fluent in Spanish, French, Italian, and...
Im an Oxfordshire girl, lived up north for a bit...

Thanks for your message :-)
There's no such thing as talking too much in my book!
Are you still interested in China? You may like to take a look at both the China and the China internship groups. There are some brilliant pictures to check out.

Hey , my friend is volunteering with www.honourvillage.com so you could try them. I haven't done any volunteering yet as well I need the money to travel to the places where I teach and there is always a few extra costs along the way that spring up, but I hope to do some in India next year I'm just waiting on some information to go, so as soon as I get it I'll pass it on. Good Luck x
Hi Kayla,
If you are interested in volunteer work, Cambodia is pretty easy to get volunteer work in orphanages, and have you checked out ecoteer, I want to do the teaching English in India with them, I haven't had chance to do it yet so I don't know what they are like but worth a look maybe?

Hi there Kayla!
Welcome to Chalkboard :-)
I really enjoyed reading your 'About me'. Helping your friends is great way to get into teaching English as a foreign language, the fact you use their slang words just shows how brilliant it is to learn from other cultures!
Do you have any plans as to where you'd like to travel to teach English?
Great to see you've joined our Newbie’s group!
Give me a shout if you have any questions!
Erin :-)
