Eagerly Anticipated Return to China

Well after my flying visit back to Australia where I caught up with family and friends I have now arrived safely back in China. Mind you the trip seemed neverending...not helped by a missed flight and a mindnumbing 12+ hours in Hong Kong airport.

I am now in Nanjing where I will be teaching at the Nanjing Medical University. I'll be teaching both nursing and ESL subjects which will be fantastic for me. First impressions are very positive. I arrived at 2300 Thursday night and was escorted to my apartment where I literally fell into bed after no sleep for over 24 hours. Awoken the next morning by the person I had been in contact with but never met....great...I hadn't even had time for a shower!!!

I cannot beleive how highly organised everything has been so far. First day and my police registration is completed, bank account opened, showed where the nearest market is to get the essentials and then left in peace to unpack. Had the weekend to relax and "recover" as they put it!!

Monday I met with the Dean and Assistant Dean of the faculty neither of whom spoke English so our meeting was interesting to say the least with the ?office manager acting as interpreter! All seemed to go well and again everything organised - class lists, class schedules. shuttle bus timetables, teaching schedules all prepared - even provided with textbooks...all this before I've even started teaching. This has got to be a first for China!!!

Tuesday and its off to the Public Security Bureau to get my resident permit - all paperwork completed and my permit will be ready next Monday. Foreign Expert Certificate already done...WOW I think all the red-tape has been completed in the easist way possible.

I keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming but if this is any indication of my time here then its going to be WONDERFUL especially for a perfectionist, control freak like me!!!

hi Rin

That would be awesome. I didn't get the chance to contact you when I was in Beijing - it was New Year and really hectic but I hope to return again - and maybe we will be able to meet up. Once I get my mobile sorted I will pm you my new number.

Sounds great Katie! I often go to Nanjing, hopefully we can meet up sometime.

My god, that is organized for China! Your job sounds great - you'll have to keep us posted with how you get on once you start teaching!
