Gotta love Chinese celebrations

The last month seems to have been one of celebration here in China. First we had Happy Teachers Day- receiving many good wishes, beautiful cards and gifts.

Last week was Mid Autumn Festival and Mooncake day. I have been given a truckload of mooncakes and will be eating them forever I think. They are very rich so you cant eat too many at once. How does one describe mooncakes...hmmm.....well some taste delicious, some are downright ghastly AND as for what they look like...well they go from traditional to modern to completely bizarre!!!

Yesterday China celebrated its National Day but we get a 5 day holiday??!!?? The streets were all decorated, gardens manicured to perfection, people everywhere and balloons galore. I was fortunate to be taken to some of the festivities with a few of my students....funnily enough I did not see another westerner anywhere all day....but I'd love a kwai for every time my picture was taken!!

Well I'm off to enjoy the rest of my break as back to school will come around all too quickly.

Bye for now.

I had 11 days holiday for national day! Bargain! =]

I agree with Cazsheps, Holidays in China are indeed great - it is a smart way to grow the economy: Get people out, spend money and be happy.  Those who are under pressure, actually, are still working anyway.

I think we should adapt similar approach in UK.  People's mind are off for Christmas and Easter, anyway.  Let us also have some longer holidays:)

I had a 10 day holiday for national day. i really do love the chinese holidays - much more than in UK. It's a good lif being a teacher in china

5 day holiday!  WOW!  I picked the wrong country.  I'll take what I can, but the biggest holiday here in Korea is Chuseok and provides us with Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday off.  My language academy, like many businesses was in full operation on Monday and Friday.

Hi Katie,

I just returned to UK from a month in Beijing doing other things.  I am now getting through my TEFL courses with 1-to-1 and hopefully would be back to China soon for teaching:)

Regarding the mooncake, did you encounter any one with ham in it - they are my favorate!

Cheers,

Kai

Hi Rimi, Well I've ended up with an 8 day holiday as my students have exams and therefore no classes!! Working on China time I didn't find out about the extra days till I was heading to class on Wednesday!!

Hi Kliang, welcome to chalkboard and yes mooncakes are wonderful (at least some are!) There are some rather bizarre ones out there but I like the fruity ones. Where are you currently located?

Aren't moon-cakes wonderful!

Hey Katie,

I cant believe you get a 5 day holiday!

Glad you are enjoying your experience!
