katieloudreaming's photos : School children in Sapa

Working_with_children

While trekking through the villages I was invited by the children to "learn" how to dance one of the local dances. Lots of fun & laughter all round between the teachers, children and my group!!!!!!

This photo's great! Where was it taken?

Thanks. It was taken in one of the villages up in the Sapa region of Vietnam. Close to the Chinese border so it was quite cold compared to the rest of Vietnam. I was with a small tour group trekking and came across this school - we got talking to the teachers and they invited us to meet the children so they could practice their English. The children then asked if they could teach us to dance but I was the only one who would join in. One of those unexpected bonuses that just happen but are unforgettable.

Sounds amazing! It's moments like that that really stick with you isn't it?

Saw you were considering China too now as well as Vietnam - you might want to check out the China Internship: http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/. Gives you loads of support and ready-made network of friends when you head out to teach, so might be a good option if it's your first time teaching abroad.

Any questions get in touch!

Thanks. Had a look at the China internship which looks absolutely perfect but I have already completed a Cert III in TESOL. The included course looks like it covers what I have already learnt  - I'm always wanting to extend myself and enhance what qualifications I already hold - but the whole concept with the assistance and support for a first placement is fantastic. Are there any other options with respect to courses??

Definitely other options - that's great that you're already half way there!

With the internship, if you're already TEFL certified, you'll just have to 'top up' your qualification to the level required (120 hours of study) and will get a personalised price taking that into account (so you won't be paying for a course which you've essentially already done!)

Your best bet is to give Claire or Melissa, who are our TEFL advisors, a call on 1300 884 270 to chat through what you covered on your cert III TESOL and whether you'd need to do any extra study to take part in the internship program.

Hope that makes sense - if you need anything else give us a shout!

OH WOW....I will certainly ring them. Are they based in Australia so I can work out a suitable time to ring. This could get quite exciting!!!!

Excellent! Yup, they're based in Australia (Melbourne) and work standard office hours so give them a call and they'll be happy to help.

Make sure you keep us updated with how you get on - you might want to check out this group to meet others who are heading on the China internship in August: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/groups/61-China-Internship-August-2-1-

Good luck!

Awww how cute!!  Vietnam is top of my wish list of places to visit!!  Did u get to see the floating village?

Emma I can't speak highly enough of Vietnam - I LOVE the country and the beautiful people. I've been to most of the major places as well as Sapa and Halong Bay in the north and the Mekong Delta in the south. Yes I have been to the floating village, floating markets plus heaps of other places. My favourite places are Saigon and Hoi An. I'd like to spend time going inland to Dalat etc next time.

Ohhh I feel like a holiday coming along!  Ive never heard bad things about Vietnam....everyone seems to have a fab time!!!  I wouldn't mind getting a few bags made either :-)
