So a few hours ago I got my email to say i'd been accepted onto the china internship and I thought there was no better time than now to start my journal...
On receiving my letter of course my first reaction was excitment and relief to find out I was in and would be going to CHINA! followed only a few minutes later with total panic at the fact that I have never taught before, I have yet to start the TEFL training, I've never lived abroad, I know very little about China, I can't use chop sticks, the fact that Mandarin looks like the hardest language ever to understand, and that on christmas day I will be having rice and noodles instead of a family dinner with turkey and trimmings!... So with a deep breath i've decided to just get started and in order to start crossing things off my panic list I've started the first section of my online TEFl, and popped to the bookshop so i am now armed with a Lonely Planet book on china, and a beginners guide to Mandarin and I'm all set to start learning. I will also be going for a chinese meal this weekend purely to start practicing my chopstick skills of course! :)
Even though so many things are daunting at the moment I am so glad I have taken this opportunity to learn to teach English and to go and live in a country so different to my own and I just can't wait for the adventure to start!

Well done! :) Hope to see you in August! I am going through the same motions myself... SO much to think about, and every day I'm thinking about something else I have to sort out. August feels so far away but in the same breath not long at all!!!
Melek xx
I taught 12 to 15 year olds. I really liked it but kindergarden age will be brilliant too. You will be doing a lot of games and things like that so the time will fly by!
Shelly, I've requested Kindergarden as i think ill more confidence with younger children for my first attempt at teaching. What ages did you teach?
Bini, good luck with your application hope you hear back soon.
Hi Katie, well done! Im hoping to go too and reading your blog seems very familiar to me! Very daunting prospects but it must definitley be worth it! I get butterflies when I start to think whether I will get accepted.
Hi Kate,
No I am not on the internship. I taught in Thailand a while back as a TEFL teacher and reading all the blogs brings back all the memories of when I was heading out for the first time. I am now working in the i-to-i Irish office. You will have a ball though. What age are you teaching?
Hey, thanks for your support everyone!
Shelly, im so excited yet petrified too i hope to do some travelling aswell after i finish next january. Are you doing the internship?
ItoI, thanks! Yes i will definatly have a look at his experiences be great to know how it all went for someone who has already done it!
Jane, I applied last wednesday so it took a week. How long since you applied? I'm sure it wont be long till you get your acceptance through!
Hey Kate, that's great news! How long did it take from application to approval? Still waiting anxiously to hear if I've made it through the cut or not. Am taking the attitude that its a done deal and am working on my TEFL stuff anyway - using the law of attraction to help - act as if it has happened and it will come to pass! Really excited for you.
Jane.
Congratulations Kate!
