About Me

I am a South African student. I have two degrees (in law and in philosophy) and am currently completing a third (in law). I also majored in English. The English language has been a love of mine for my entire life and I would love to impart some of this knowledge I have of it to others.
My aim is to teach English (probably at high school level or any level really) in Europe for about 6 months (preferrably from January to June in 2012). I am told that without an EU passport (something I lack) this is an uphill battle. I hope someone on this site can tell me otherwise!

Future Destinations

The world is my oyster! I hope. With a South African passport I'm afraid it manifestly IS NOT! But I am an optimist! I have only ever been to London (abroad). It was great although I must say that I met too many one-dimensional robots there. English folks are often rather dreary and unfriendly; but it is cosmopolitan and so I met other europeans: I loved the Italians, Spanish and Turks especially. I suppose Italy...

Hey,

Welcome to Chalkboard. Great to see you're interested in teaching abroad. I'm afraid to say it can be difficult for non-eu citizens to be able to find jobs in Europe, but it is possible!

To get you started on the site you may want to have a chat to these members who are currently teaching in Europe - they'll be able to give you advice on finding work:

Spain: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/emsr2d2 and http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/josiehiggy
Italy: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/cherogoth

To give you lots of graduate-specific advice, you may want to download a free copy of The Graduate’s Guide to Teaching & Travelling Abroad from here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/graduates.

Enjoy the site and feel free to ask me any questions you have :-)
