Student at a community college, I plan on going on to university for a four-year course in Middle Grades Education toward my Bachelor's Degree! I also plan on taking Japanese as a minor, while I continue to study Spanish with the help of a private tutor.
I'm not rolling in cash, but I don't look at life in terms of money. While I realize I need to make enough to survive and live a comfortable life, I ask for no more than that. Thus when I was searching for a career, I thought about how I could add to society. When I looked back at my high school courses, I realized that English was something I excelled at. While not having ever been a very active, center-piece kind of person (such as our esteemed 'class president'), I find that I handle stress much better than those around me, and I've been told that I have a talent at spreading enthusiasm!
Even though I am extremely interested in learning new languages, I always find myself looking back at English and being happy that I had the chance to learn it early on. English is such an imaginative language! My hobbies have always included reading and writing above all, even programming (in languages such as Flash and Visual Basic)! I believe this lent a great deal toward my 'mastering' of the language!
To sum me up: my personality type is ENTP and I've found myself to be an intuitive learner; my teachers have grouped me among the few 'kinaesthetic' learners they know, and I think of learning in the way most 'theorist' learners would. I believe I took learning for granted in high school, mostly due to the constant drama of my class, but since then I have found myself randomly looking up topics out of interest, surfing the web for the express purpose of expanding my knowledge base!
Also, my family are constant movers. I've been all over the United States, living in Florida, Louisiana, and North Carolina; I've visited California, Washington DC, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. My most recent sojourn was to South Carolina to watch my cousin's graduation from bootcamp; depending on the situation and where I find myself, I quickly adapt. Most people have called me a 'quick study', so I catch onto things pretty quick. But I find that I overthink some things, hence my 'theorist' bent. And more often than not, I find my overthinking makes me wrong in many cases!

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountTeaching in your local area to get some practice sounds like a good plan - that and doing a TEFL cert will give you a really great chance of finding jobs when you graduate. You might want to chat to these people about teaching abroad - as they've 'been there, done that':

South Korea: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/monsta88
Thailand: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/garethopenshaw
I'd say that the UK and France are probably not the best bets, as demand there is very low - I reckon your best place to start will be South East Asia (Thailand, South Korea etc) but you've still got plenty of time to think about it!
Good luck with it all and if you have any questions give me a shout :)
Hey Jerome,
Welcome to Chalkboard - so are you planning to teach English abroad after you finish at college? If you let me know where you're thinking of heading I'll put you in touch with some people who are already out there teaching.
Enjoy the site and if you have any questions feel free to get in touch!
