Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountJust let me know! I was just thinking today how much I want it to be February already. I have already started a packing list of things I need to bring, making sure to bring the small comforts of home with me. I haven't done any teaching at all, but I have had some public speaking courses, so hopefully that will pay off. I am sure people don't want to hear about cardiomyopathy in the classroom though, so I'll have to find some good things to talk about.
I think it's best to expect to be surprised with the whole thing, and just to go with the flow. :) At least, that's what I've heard, in addition to the culture shock.
If you are on facebook, you can add me at www.facebook.com/lorelei.harp :)
Yep, I finished the course back in September, so if you have any questions feel free to ask. Some of it was quite challenging, especially in the specialist modules. I thought I wasn't going to finish by the deadline, but I got them done!
Now it's just the waiting game...I want to go!!
Hi Jen,
I just wanted to say hi-and see you in China in a couple months! I can't wait to meet everyone.
Lorelei
I actually left my job today! Due to be starting a new one on monday. Working in insurance, creating policies, exciting things like that ;) Should work out quite nicely tho, it's a 4 month contract which should just about be enough work to pay all outstanding bills and leave with some cash.
To be honest, as long as I don't come back anytime soon I'll be happy. Really want to see new things, meet new people, should have done this ages ago. I've been viewing China as work experience as I have a couple of places I could potentially go to afterward. My brother lives in Abu Dhabi and have cousins in Peru athough, it all remains to be seen if I get a place in China. Sending off my application form tomorrow...once I find my passport...which I seem to have mislaid...bum.
Heard anything about your application yet?
Oh really? Well, that is kinda reassuring! What job do you do?
I'm kinda lucky in the fact my brother is a TEFL teacher in london so I've got a reference guide on hand if I need I need it :D
You know, dunno why, but I was under the false impression that all of China has nice weather. I'm really not a fan of the cold so I'm just hoping I just put somewhere warm.
To be honest, I haven't really given travelling much thought. The reason I want to go out is because I'm more up for working than travelling, travelling is just a nice perk. Jobs where I am are pretty few and far between so I thought I might as well go somewhere else and meet new people. My inital thoughts are, (if I like it) is to sign another contract and stay longer. What about you?
Dave
Hey Jen,
Yeah it seems the actual TEFL is the short bit. How long did it take you?
I'm enjoying it so far, didn't quite expect that if I've very honest. Only just about touching the surface tho, finished the first module but I'm actually rather busy at the moment so getting time is a slight chore.
Have you decided on where about in China you want to teach?
Hope you have cool weekend,
Dabe
Hi Jen,
How's the studying going?
Dave
Hey Jen, I'm in the same boat. I've never done any teaching but kind of looking forward to it. You got any idea where you want to be placed? Paddy
Hi, my name is Jen and I'm 25 and from Solihull, near Birmingham. Just signed up to the China Internship 2011 and am so excited but also extremely nervous!
Never done any kind of teaching before so the prospect is very daunting! However, I love to travel and have always wanted to go to China! Anyone else going on the internship please feel free to message me as it would be great to chat before we jet off!!
