Hi! I am hoping to teach English in Japan next year. I have been working as a graphic designer/ illustrator in the UK for last last couple of years and I absolutely love it, but it's time for a change. I really want to experience life in a different culture, meet new people and gain a new outlook on life. I have always been interested in teaching, I imagine it is very fulfilling watching students learning from you and improving their skills. Japan, for me, is the ideal country to begin my journey and I can't wait to get there and get stuck in.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for getting back to me. Good luck with your interview. Let me know how it goes and what was involved? How long did it take from first applying to getting your interview? I was hoping to start applying soon just wanted to do a couple more weeks on my TEFL course just to feel a bit happier about the finish. Quite interesting to see you worked as a Graphic designer. I used to teach Graphics in schools. Hope to hear your news.
Dave
Hi Laura,thanks for that!
Jen
Hey Jenny,
Just to let you know I've moved your post on where to live in Japan into the Japan group as a discussion so more people will see it here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/groups/8-Japan/discussion/885-where-to-live-in-japan?page=1#posts-5769

Good luck!
Yep, hopefuly i will be on with my TEFL in the morning, i guess i have a slight advantage in that i dont work full time so i can really crack on with things, or i am hoping to anyway!
Did you yourself have to apply with interac or did i-to-i help you along with it. I am slightly worried about going through the process and not getting a job in Japan afterwards. Anyhow i will hopefuly have a result in the morning!
So the wheels are in motion then. I'm enjoying the course, although I only started it a couple of weeks ago. It varies how much I do each day depending on my job/hangover status :o) I've actually felt really focused since starting this, its given me a real goal - something to work really hard for. The TEFL 'matnra' is that the more you put in the more you get out of the course, and it's very true. There are always extra bits of info and resources made availble.
In terms of work load, the crouse is split into modules so you can write yourself a timetable to make sure you get all the work done within the three months. I'm doing the 120hours combined course, so i will be heading to Bristol for the classroom section of the course in January. It'll be a good oppertunity to put online skills into practise and meet some other TEFLers.
I have only applied with interac so far as this is who i-to-i put me in touch with. There is another acency called JET that seems very popular so i'm thinking about contacting them - going to get some advice on this first though. Good luck getting booked on, I think it's time and money well spent.
Jen
Hey,
Well i have sent an email and awaiting a response, hopefuly get on the phone to them tomorrow and get things booked. How have you been finding the tefl course? How many hours a day have you been doing? Have you applied with anyone else apart from Interac?
Hey, I think that's a wise decision, probably get more out of the course with the weekend added! Yep I'll be doing mine in London. I met someone a week ago who taught in Japan for two years, he's fluent in Japanese now but he did mention that it's not that difficult to learn once you're there...so he says, but i guess some people are better at picking up other languages then others. At the mo your limited vocab sounds promising, you've got the necessities nailed!
I'm not actually too sure where to head, I've got a couple of places in mind but i think i need to do some more research on them to decide where I really would like to end up. Japan is on that list as well as China, as starting points, then I'd like to go to somewhere in the East of Europe maybe the Czech Rep, and then after that my dream would be to live and teach in a scandinavian country...overall I think this would all take 3 - 4 years to achieve, but it'll be worth it.
Strange to think that even though I'm ambitious to see the world I haven't even been to Wales, or Bristol. You ever visited London?
Best wishes with the course, x
Hi Jenny,
Yea it's been really exciting so far, so much information to process especially the grammar stage! But I'm really enjoying it. I'm taking the 120 hours combined course as I thought the weekend classroom would help put the real thing into perspective a bit. How about you, are you on the w.e course? Japan looks amazing! I know what you mean about driving friends and family crazy, I can't stop talking about it either!
