So, I've just finished the 140 hour combined course! Except I haven't really as i to i keep cancelling my weekend course because of low numbers...
I have enjoyed the online part of the course, and feel I have learnt a lot - I'm not sure how ready I feel to teach in a class room though!
My question is this: is it worth doing the weekend course still? I hear that it is mainly the same stuff as in the online course...I don't need a recap. And the earliest I will be able to do it is March - or even April if they cancel that one too!
I am worried I have no practical experience from the course...do you think this is a problem? I have lined myself up a one-to-one student who I will be teaching online - a friend from a few years back, so should ease me in gently! Will this be enough experience if I choose to teach in a classroom at some point in the future? I think short-term, I just want to teach online anyhow.
I am verging on cancelling the weekend course and getting my £100 back I think...
Any advice on the weekend course's worth or how to get work teaching online would be much appreciated!
Thanks and good luck to everyone working through the course still!

Hi,
I think it's definitely worth it as you get to see some techniques in action, which boosts your understanding and confidence. It also helps you to see things from the students' shoes, which is very important. £100 seems like a fortune sometimes but I always tell myself things like "You'd have gone to the pub and spent £15-20 without begrudging it, 5 times that is £100, and look at the long term benefits!"
Maybe you don't have my weakness for pubs, but I'd still say the course is money well spent! ;-)
Hi Jem,
Feel free to take a look at my ramblings about the weekend course if you haven't already done so!

It's a real shame that some classroom courses occasionally get cancelled. There has to be a certain number of people booked onto the weekend in order to conduct the games and learning activities so no ones there
teaching an empty classroom or missing out on the group based learning games.

Hi! Yeah I can see it being interesting....I think I am just getting fed up them cancelling the course over and over! April is a long time to wait seeing as I've finished the online bit already... decisions decisions!
I have just done the weekend course and it really was excellent. Not only because it put the stuff you learn online into practice but the fact you meet other people who are doing it is also great. My course leader Leanne was great, you can ask them whatever you want, its good to see a real live person that's done the things you want to do. Its really inspiring, I'd say do it and good luck wherever you go! :)
