Applying and experience...

Action stations! Having realised that I really need to get experience, practise and confidence in TEFL I've been trying to build up momentum lately and try and pull things together.

In brief, I've completed an application for teaching English at an Italian summer camp so we'll see how that goes. I know that doing a short stint will do me a world of good and is a logical stepping stone. Thanks to everyone here on Chalkboard who recommended that I go down that route!

Before that though there's the here and now: how do I get more TEFL experience and, hopefully, paid-work when I'm stuck at home for the time being? After ringing around some local community centres I ended up being passed on to an organisation looking for teaching assistants and volunteers. After a face-to-face informal interview I'm now set to start helping out next week in whatever way I can at the organisation. I'll mainly be a teaching aide at the beginning I think, but it could undoubtedly open up a range of possibilities, chance to practise and opportunities to engage with others. Positive volunteering that boosts my CV and helps generat self-confidence: sounds cool to me.

I'll have to see how they go, then I'll have further details (I don't want to talk about things to much and jinx them!). Here's to making my way along the TEFL path, and thanks again to everyone who's provided inspiration and encouragement!

I'm sure it'll do the world of good on your CV too!

Thanks Honor! I'll keep you posted!

Helping out as a teaching volunteer sounds great - you'll have to keep us posted with how you get on.

Best of luck with your summer camp application also - hope it comes good for you!
